Baptism is simply an outward sign of an inward commitment. It’s a way to show the world that you’ve made a decision for Christ and you’re starting your life anew. The old life is washed away in the water (symbolically) and you are raised from the water to new life in Christ. It’s not a requirement for entering heaven, but it’s something Jesus did (Matthew 3), so why shouldn’t we follow that example?
